With over 160,000 visitors over the four days, more than 600 carefully selected exhibitors, an average of 80 of the world’s top competitors and a prize fund of over £300,000, 21st century Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials is a far cry from the inaugural event, which took place more than 50 years ago with just 19 competitors and in front of a mere 12,000 people.

Dressage, cross country and show jumping will be going at full tilt over the next few days at Burghley Horse Trials. You can follow the unfolding results at bdwp.co.uk if you don’t have the good luck of being there. For those attending, here’s what you need to know.

BOX OFFICE Thursday 30th August, Friday 31st August, Saturday 1st September: Showground Box Office located opposite the Members’ Enclosure; Open 8.30am – 6pm. Sunday 2nd September: Showground Box Office located opposite the Members’ Enclosure; Open 8am – 4pm.

ADMISSION Flexi Ticket (For admission to either Thursday, Friday or Sunday) £18 per person (on the gate); Saturday Admission £32 per person (on the gate).

PARKING Thursday, Friday, Saturday £13 (on the gate). Sunday £12 (on the gate).

GRANDSTANDS Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials comprises of Dressage which takes place in the Main Arena on the Thursday and Friday, Cross Country which takes place out on the Cross Country course around the Park on the Saturday and Showjumping in the Main Arena on the Sunday. Members have access to the North Stand in the Main Arena on the Thursday and Friday, however, if you are not a Member, it is possible to purchase grandstand seats to watch the action. When purchasing a grandstand seat this includes: Your own seat in the grandstand for the day and freedom to come and go all day; Dressage on Thursday and Friday; View of the arena Cross Country fence on Saturday; Showjumping on Sunday; Arena Displays and activities on all days; Prize giving presentation on Sunday.

MEMBERSHIP A Burghley Horse Trials Membership is the ideal way for two people to be able to enjoy all four days of the Event. Members can enjoy their own dedicated Enclosure which is located in the heart of the showground, with stunning views of Burghley House. This relaxed yet traditional Enclosure includes a full service restaurant*, where you can enjoy a two or three course meal, counter service for breakfast, lunch and tea, champagne & seafood bar, speciality coffee, a fully licenced bar, closed circuit television, private toilets and baby changing facilities. £210 if purchased at the Event with additional Guest Badges costing £40 if purchased at the Event (a Guest Badge does not gain admission to the Event; an additional admission ticket will also need to be purchased if an additional person is coming with you.)

The specialist food stalls in the Food Walk offer a mouthwatering and diverse selection of local and international goods for you to sample and take home. The Food Walk is open from 8.30am – 5.30pm, Thursday – Saturday and 8.30am – 5.00pm, Sunday.

Bedazzled Cupcakes, Birchfield Family Dairies, Blueberry Hill Preserves, Bumble Wrap, Chocolate Alchemy, Cocoa and Cane, New York Delhi, Nova Scotia Farm Produce, Snowdonia Cheese Company, The Brownie Company, The Curry Sauce Company, The Gluten Free Kitchen and The Gourmet Pie Company are among the many vendors in attendance.

Getting There

CAR The Event is clearly sign-posted. Using satnav, the postcode PE9 3JY will direct you towards Burghley House. Once you see the temporary yellow signs, follow these and turn off your satnav. Members’ car pass: Gate 1-Pilsgate Lodge on Barnack Road (B1443). Public and season car pass & disabled badge holders: Gate 4-Station Gate (B1443) & Gate 5-Bottle Lodges (B1081). Particularly on Saturday, you are strongly advised to allow an extra hour for the last 10 miles of your journey.

TRAIN The train line to Stamford runs from Birmingham, Leicester, Nuneaton or Peterborough. It takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to walk into the Event from Stamford station. National Rail Enquiries: 08457 484950, www.nationalrail.co.uk.
