In the lead up to the Royal Wedding, we speak to bespoke jeweller Simon Wright to discover the most regal engagement ring designs that money can buy…
Fine jewellery with a personal approach? It’s not solely the stuff of dreams, but actually the central element to Simon Wright‘s jewellery. Simon provides a completely bespoke service, working closely with clients to create exquisite custom-made designs which use only the finest diamonds, gemstones, platinum and gold. An appointment involves viewing stones, a short tour of the workshop and a sit-down design session at his studio workshop in Clerkenwell, all essential elements of creating the bespoke engagement ring of dreams.
It’s no surprise that when it comes to creating a ring, many turn to the Royal archives for inspiration… With the Royal Wedding fast approaching, we take a look at some of Simon Wright’s most regal engagement ring creations. From huge sapphires like Kate Middleton’s, to Art Deco designs like Wallis Simpson’s, these are five designs that share an aesthetic with some of the most famous royal engagement rings in history.
Kate Middleton
This Simon Wright design is made with a stunning oval Ceylon sapphire, bearing a close resemblance to Kate Middleton’s heirloom engagement ring from Prince William. Previously belonging to Princess Diana, William says he chose it as a way of making sure his mother didn’t miss out on their wedding day.
Wallis Simpson
Edward VIII proposed to Wallis Simpson with a square-cut emerald ring engraved with the words, “we are ours now 27 X 36”. This Simon Wright design has a similar Art Deco feel, made with an octagonal green tourmaline flanked by three baguette cut diamonds on either side.
Meghan Markle
This dazzling Simon Wright design shares the same stone cuts as Meghan Markle’s engagement ring from Prince Harry, but with different metal and central stone. As the most recent royal engagement, you can expect these cuts to be a popular choice for engagement rings in 2018 and beyond.
Princess Eugene
Princess’s Eugene engagement ring is crafted with a padparadscha sapphire – a rare stone loved for its mesmerising pinkish-orange glow. This oval pink sapphire ring by Simon Wright is just as hypnotising, complemented by a halo of round brilliant cut diamonds and two pear shape diamonds.
Grace Kelly
This Simon Wright design is made with a beautiful radiant cut diamond set between two tapered baguettes, just like Grace Kelly’s famous engagement ring from Prince Rainier III. Her ring first made an appearance in Kelly’s last movie, High Society, alongside Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Iconic, indeed!
