Aura colours are a hot topic on TikTok right now. But what are they? And what do they mean?
The world of alternative wellness is a big one, spanning everything from meditation, reiki and tapping to astrology and tarot. But one thread that has picked up speed this year is the study of aura colours – and what they can tell us about a person. Intrigued? We’ve asked the experts to share their tips for spotting aura colours (as well as what they really mean).
What Are Aura Colours?
‘Aura colours are the colours of the energy that surrounds a person,’ explains Zack Hashmi, a psychic at spiritual guidance platform Nebula. ‘This energy is sometimes called an aura or energy field.
The psychic goes on to tell us that each aura has its own colour, and that these colours can reveal certain things about a person and their character. ‘They can reflect how someone is feeling, their personality and what they might be experiencing in life,’ says Zach. ‘For example, a yellow aura might show that someone is happy and full of ideas, while a green aura could mean they’re calm and caring.’
Who Can See Aura Colours?
While not everyone can see aura colours on their own, Zack notes that those ‘who are sensitive or have psychic abilities’ have a better chance of seeing them. ‘Others may not see the colour clearly but can feel it – like sensing whether someone has a calming or intense energy,’ he adds. ‘Some people learn to see auras by practicing and becoming more aware of energy.’

How To Find Your Colour
If you can’t see aura colours on your own, don’t worry. There are a few ways you get a glimpse of your aura. Zack outlines a few methods below:
- Aura photography: Some places use special cameras to take a picture of your energy field.
- Energy readers or psychics: These individuals can often sense or see your aura and tell you what colour it is. (Although note that aura readings aren’t meant to predict the future – they’re meant to offer deeper insight into your inner world, relationships and alignment with your path.)
- Self-awareness: Through meditation or tuning into your feelings, you might begin to sense which colour resonates with your energy.
‘Whether you discover your aura through a photo, a reading or personal reflection, it’s a powerful way to connect with your true self,’ says Zack. ‘Paying attention to your aura can help you grow, heal and feel more balanced in life.’
What Does Each Aura Colour Mean?
As for the colours themselves, they each carry their own particular meaning:
- Red: Passionate, grounded, energetic, and sometimes impulsive or short-tempered.
- Orange: Creative, sociable, adventurous; enjoys stimulation and new experiences.
- Yellow: Optimistic, intellectual, cheerful, with a strong sense of self.
- Green: Healing energy, balanced, nurturing; connected to nature and growth.
- Blue: Calm, communicative, intuitive, peaceful, and deeply emotional.
- Indigo: Deeply spiritual, wise, insightful, often connected to psychic gifts.
- Violet/Purple: Visionary, compassionate, spiritually evolved.
- Pink: Loving, kind, gentle, with a deep desire for harmony and connection.
- White: Purity, divine connection, high frequency, often seen in spiritual teachers.
- Black or Gray: Can indicate blocked energy, protection, or someone in an emotional or spiritual transition.
‘All colours have both positive and challenging aspects,’ highlights Zack. ‘No colour is bad. Each one reflects what a person may be feeling or going through at the time.’

Do You Only Have One Colour?
‘No, most people have several colours in their aura at once,’ says Zack. ‘But usually, one main colour stands out the most. This colour often reflects your personality or your overall mood. Other colours may come and go depending on your mood, energy, or health.
‘Your aura is always changing,’ he adds. ‘Aura colours shift with your emotions, thoughts, spiritual growth and even the people you’re around. A person going through emotional healing might shift from dark or muted colours to brighter, more dynamic hues. Major life changes – like falling in love, experiencing grief or discovering your purpose – can also significantly impact your aura colours.’
How To Take Care Of Your Aura
‘Learning about your aura can help you understand yourself better and connect more deeply with others,’ notes Zack, adding that it’s also important you look after your aura when you can. ‘You can take care of your aura by spending time in nature, meditating or doing things that help you feel calm and happy. Cleansing your aura through energy work can also help you maintain an emotional and energetic balance.’
