What Is A Cutie Bob?

‘A cutie bob is a modern bob hairstyle that sits just below the chin but above the shoulders. It features softly blunt, chunky ends for a playful yet feminine look,’ explains Zoe Adams, International Artist at Taylor Taylor London. ‘Its romantic and casual feel sets it apart, combining volume – characterised by its slight kick-out at the ends – with natural texture. There’s also some versatility, as the haircut can include bangs resting just above the brows.’

Zoe goes on to tell us that it’s the cut’s unique styling that makes it stand-out amongst other bob hairstyles. ‘First off, you have the chunky ends,’ she says. ‘It has no wispy or feathered edges – giving it a defined, voluminous look. It’s also designed to complement natural hair patterns, with a slight outward flick for modernity, and maintain a cute, daintier look. Unlike sharp, angular bobs or ultra-layered versions, the cutie bob stays firmly in feminine territory while remaining casual.’

And if you’re still not sure what a cutie bob is, you’ll definitely recognise it. It’s the bob that Hailey Bieber wore for the better part of a year, and the one that was more recently picked up on by Lily Collins and Kendall Jenner. It’s the cut that seems to have a permanent fan club on TikTok, worn by only the trendiest of creators.

But why do we keep going back to it? ‘The chunky, slightly undone aesthetic aligns with current preferences for effortless, natural beauty,’ says Zoe. ‘It’s elegant, while still suitable for everyday practicality. It’s this wearability which makes it a consistent winner.’

Who Suits This Cut?

While anyone can give the cut a go, Zoe does note that some face shapes might get on better with it than others. ‘Oval and heart-shaped faces benefit most, as the cut complements their balanced proportions,’ she says. ‘However, square faces can use the soft, blunt ends to soften their jawline.’

And when it comes to textures: ‘This haircut is best for straight to wavy hair, as it naturally enhances the chunky texture. Curly hair may need slight modifications to keep the shape balanced.’

How To Ask For A Cutie Bob In The Salon

Since this is still a burgeoning TikTok term, you’ll want to ask for something a bit more specific that a ‘cutie bob’. Ask for a short, blunt bob with slightly flicked ends. Emphasise that you want the cut to feel chunky and voluminous. ‘And if you are coming into the salon, don’t be shy about bringing in references,’ adds Zoe. ‘Stylists love to see imagery and it really helps to avoid any confusion on length or style.’

How To Style A Cutie Bob

‘This cut’s natural texture and soft structure make it easy to manage,’ says Zoe. ‘It can be styled casually or slicked back for a contemporary edge – but I’d say it looks best when tailored to your natural texture. When styling, use a texturizing spray or cream to enhance natural waves or create a slightly undone look.’

What Next?

As for the future, Zoe sees more hybrid styles stepping into the spotlight. ‘The cutie bob has become a classic, however, hybrid styles could emerge, blending the cutie bob with other trends like the “shaggy bob” or incorporating curtain bangs to create a retro twist.’
