Crockett & Jones x 007: Everything You Need To Know

The 60th anniversary celebrations for Goldfinger continue over at Crockett & Jones. As the official partner and provider of footwear to James Bond, the British brand has helped shape the iconic spy’s wardrobe over the years – and now, they’re giving us a slice of the action.

‘James Bond is not only the world’s most famous secret agent, he is also the world’s best dressed,’ said the Crockett & Jones team in an official release. ‘Bond’s wardrobe has always been an integral part of his character, with the early films being no exception. He is always immaculately dressed. His subtle, elegant, yet understated silhouette irradiates an air of conviction, competence, to be confronted at your own peril.

‘Even his early style remains timeless to this day, as a conscious decision to wear only the highest quality clothing and footwear shines through. An iconic combination of Britishness, through his character and clothing, continues to inspire Crockett & Jones.’

The Crockett & Jones x 007 collection is comprised of two new styles: Highbury 2, a limited-edition shoe inspired by the suede Derby worn by Bond in Goldfinger, and a velvet slipper featuring the original Bond family coat of arms.

The Suede Derby: Highbury 2

Turning to the Crockett & Jones archive, the first item in the collection is a reincarnation of an original James Bond shoe. Designed by the shoemaker to feature in Skyfall, Spectre and No Time To Die, the Highbury is the perfect style to celebrate the legacy of our favourite British spy.

The shoe is modelled in a Derby style – another nod to 007’s history. ‘In Goldfinger, James Bond wears a two-eyelet suede Derby’ explained Crockett & Jones. ‘These shoes make an appearance during the famous car chase between him in his delectable Aston Martin DB5 (its first appearance in a James Bond film) and Pussy Galore in her 1964 convertible Ford Mustang.’

Made in England, the Highbury shoe is made from English calf suede and the brand’s signature ‘City’ rubber sole, with all-black interiors emblazoned with a silver foiled logo. Each pair of shoes is presented in exclusive 007 packaging, with handmade show trees (to display your new collectible) and a chrome shoehorn – all embossed with the 007 logo.

The Albert Slipper

The second piece in the collection is a velvet slipper, adorned with the Bond family coat of arms.

Wanting to imbue the new style with a hint of traditional luxury, Crockett & Jones opted for an Albert slipper – thought to be named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert – which dates back to the 1800s. Worn by Victorian gentleman, the Albert was the height of fashion at lavish dinner parties of the era.

The same reputation accompanies the Albert today. Standing the test of time, you’ll still spot these slippers on the feet of celebrities on the red carpet (alongside a smoking jacket or two).

Cut from luxurious velvet, the slipper comes with a luxurious quilted lining – but 007 fans might find themselves more drawn to another feature: the Bond family coat of arms. First appearing in Her Majesty’s Service in 1969, it features the Bond family motto, ‘Orbis non sufficit’ (‘The world is not enough’). ‘This family motto is actually traced to that of Sir Thomas Bond,’ noted Crockett & Jones. ‘A “potential” ancestor of James Bond himself.’
