How To Get A Free Rental Outfit For Your Next Destination Wedding

Destination weddings are on the rise, and while we all love an excuse for a holiday we can’t say no to, the cost of wedding hopping can get out of hand. According to a study by Airbnb, 53% of guests in the UK struggle with the cost of attending a wedding, with 31% of those asked attending four or more weddings each year. And of course, you can’t wear the same outfit to each one, can you? For a more cost-effective and eco-friendly fashion choice, renting your wedding attire is the obvious option. Airbnb has collaborated with fashion rental app By Rotation to offer complimentary outfit rentals to Airbnb guests staying in wedding destinations including Spain, Italy and France. 

Destination Weddings: What Do They Cost?

The research reveals that the average wedding guest spends £661 per wedding, with last-minute expenses like wedding gifts (17%) and outfits (10%) contributing to the total. To save on new outfits (and extra luggage charges), Airbnb and By Rotation are offering £150 worth of By Rotation credit to rent their guest outfit for guests booking an Airbnb in one of the top wedding locations worldwide. Additionally, guests will receive £100 worth of Airbnb credit to put towards future bookings. 

Renting V Buying 

According to research by Rent the Runway, each rental garment worn can potentially save an estimated 24 per cent in water usage, a six per cent reduction in energy usage, and a three per cent reduction in CO2 emissions, in comparison to buying new. These are conservative estimates based on several rentals of each item, obviously the capacity to reduce energy consumption increases with each item reuse versus producing a new item of clothing. However, these saves are also variable depending on the model used and the transportation of items involved. It is a safe bet that buying a single-use outfit for your next wedding will not be as eco-friendly as renting, however. 

How Does It Work?

To take advantage of the partnership, guests must book an Airbnb in one of the top 10 wedding guest locations worldwide for an upcoming wedding. They can then apply for complimentary rentals at airbnb.com/weddingwardrobes, where they can receive £150 worth of By Rotation credit for outfit rentals and an additional £100 Airbnb credit for future bookings. Finally, guests can browse the Airbnb Edit on the By Rotation app and website to find outfit inspiration from trending designers to complete their wedding guest look.
