What happens when luxury meets athletics?
This spring, we’re in for a treat. Luxury fashion label Michael Kors and Italian sportswear brand Ellesse have just announced the launch of their first collaborative capsule collection.
The New Michael Kors x Ellesse Collection
Two mega-brands are jumping onto the time capsule trend this spring, with a joint collection celebrating the athletic style of the 1970s. The brands in question are luxury giant Michael Kors and coveted athletics label Ellesse. Set to drop in May, the collection is accompanied by a summery campaign that focuses on an ‘uber-cool cast’ and ‘vibrant, sporty and glamorous designs’.
Campaign photos were released earlier today to mark the collection’s upcoming launch. Shot by renowned fashion photographer Lachlan Bailey and styled by Mel Ottenberg, we’re taken to the tennis courts of Miami – where some very familiar faces sport the new collection. Fronted by the likes of models Emily Ratajkowski and Brooklyn-based rap musician Jay Critch (who also provides the backing track to the campaign video), the campaign combines the energetic vibes of Ellesse and the effortless glamour of Michael Kors.
The collection is comprised of 24 pieces in total, each of which plays on the vintage sports vibe leading the campaign. Think track jackets and trousers, old-school swimsuits and psychedelic patterns (in Ellesse’s signature orange, navy and white colour palette, no less) spiced up with newer style staples like bucket hats, logo slides and chunky sneakers. Emblazoned across the collection is a meshed version of both brands’ emblems.
Following the release of the capsule collection, both brands will be hosting a series of pop-up installations and activations around the world. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on social media with the hashtags #DOUBLES and #MKxELLESSE.
