The luxury label joins a community of over 2000 British brands with B Corp status

It’s a day for celebration: British luxury label Mulberry has passed the rigorous audit required to become a B Corp.

How Mulberry Became A B Corp

Since it was founded in 1971, care for the planet has been central to Mulberry’s ethos. It launched its Made to Last manifesto in 2021, which detailed the brand’s commitment to transforming its business to a regenerative and circular model.

Now, the Somerset-based British brand has gained B Corp status, successfully passing the organisation’s exacting audit. This looks at a company’s impact on people and planet, and covers five areas: governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers. A score of 80 is required for brands to gain B Corp accreditation; Mulberry passed with 87.1.

‘I’m proud that my first announcement as CEO of Mulberry is our B Corp Certification,’ says Andrea Baldo, who joined the brand in July this year.

‘Mulberry is one of the first global luxury brands to become a B Corp, and this reflects the DNA of the company and the hard work of the teams. But it is a milestone, not a destination, and we look forward to learning from – and contributing to – a range of businesses in order to be a force for good for our communities and the environment.’

Key to Mulberry’s successful B Corp accreditation is the five pillars of its ongoing sustainability strategy and commitments. These include:

  • Climate: Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2035.
  • Cultivation: Build relationships with regenerative farmers and establish an end-to-end UK supply chain.
  • Craft: Develop and grow the expertise we have established in the UK, and connect this to a regenerative British supply chain.
  • Circularity: Continue to build global recognition and access to The Mulberry Exchange.
  • Culture: Put people at the heart of everything Mulberry does, from community initiatives to Employee Resource Groups.

Another central factor is Mulberry’s sourcing for its bags – all its leather comes from environmentally accredited tanneries – and its Mulberry Exchange, which sells repairs and resells preloved styles. It also restores over 12,000 bags a year at its Lifetime Service Centre, ensuring customers can keep wearing and using their Mulberry bags for years and years.
