The Country & Town House Responsible Buyers’ Guide
The Biggest Shoe Trends For AW24
Dialling down the flamboyancy of SS24, shoes are taking a step away from the loudness and falling back on wearable looks and calm collectedness this season. Sound like your vibe? These are the biggest shoe trends forecasted for AW24:
Trends At A Glance
- Silver Slips
- Blended Leg
- Ticklish Textures
- Pop of Red
- Ballet Flats
1. Silver Slips
Magpies will have spotted the continuation of SS24’s affinity for metallics this season, with designers sending models down the runway shiny, glossy and sometimes sparkly footwear. While last season saw many brands branch out into coloured metallics, AW24 leans back into the classics with an abundance of silver – from heels and ballet flats to chunky boots and lace-ups. The emphasis seems to be on ultra-smooth, liquid metals, although we did notice a hint of glitter from some designers.
2. Blended Legs
Boot cuffs have been creeping up and up over the last year, and the latest rendition of the trend took shape on the AW24 runway as ‘blended legs’ – aka, shoes that seamlessly merged into the leg of the outfit itself. Designers created the optical illusion on the runway through an extension of colour, print and texture, with outfits appearing like one continuous garment.
3. Ticklish Textures
Last season opened the door on ‘sweepers’ – AKA, shoes with added embellishments that literally ‘sweep’ the floor – and before it really could seem to take off, the style set have apparently already reworked the trend. The emphasis this season moves away from the sweeping element to focus more closely on the textural component of the shoe itself, with feathers, beads, pearls, bows, crochet and lace all taking centre stage.
4. Pop of Red
We’ve not seen the last of red, 2024’s colour of the year. Red took to the SS24 runway in splashes of colour that drenched the entire outfit from head to toe – and while love for the colour still remains strong, designers are paring back their approach with minimal ‘pops’ that draw the eye without overpowering the rest of the ensemble.
5. Ballerinas (Again)
Thought you had escaped the ultra-girly coquette trend? Think again. Bows, ballerinas and blush tones were once again signatures on the AW24 runway, and made a prominent appearance on the feet of models walking down it. Ballet flats stepped out in various shapes and colours – most donned with elastic straps and bows reminiscent of a ballet class – signalling yet another break from platforms and heels.
