There’s Something in the Water

This summer's best sustainable swimwear, as modelled by Team GB's sychronised swimmers

Act now to conserve our most precious resource, and discover this summer’s most joyful sustainable swimwear, as worn by Team GB’s sychronised swimmers in the May/June Sustainability Issue.

Synchronised swimming is like performing ballet underwater. For this special shoot, Team GB’s talented synchro duo Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe showed us the sublime power of the human body in water to symbolise our essential relationship with the world’s most important resource.

As temperatures rise, not only do we face less predictability in the availability of water, with an increased likelihood of flooding and its converse effect, drought, but also the amount of plastic pollution in water that threatens both marine life and humans ourselves as we indirectly eat the plastic ingested by fish.

With approximately eight million pieces of plastic entering the oceans every single day, why not join Surfers Against Sewage and its new initiative Million Mile Clean, which aims to bring communities together to organise a beach – or a park – clean (beachcleans.org.uk) and hit a target of a million miles of clean-up by the end of 2021.

You can also do your part this summer by choosing a new eco-friendly one-piece or bikini from a brand that values the environment as much as you do, as modelled by Team GB in our beautiful photoshoot below. And you can find more sustainable swimwear in our edit.
