The Vampire’s Wife Is Closing Down – But Not Without One Last Sale

We're saying a sad goodbye to the gothic designer label
It’s been a tough few years on the fashion market, with many brands still feeling the pressures of the pandemic. The luxury market is no exception to this rule and, sadly, the latest label to fall victim to closure is The Vampire’s Wife. The brand announced earlier this week it would be closing its doors for good, with one final goodbye sale set for the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend to shift its last remaining stock.
The Vampire’s Wife Prepares To Shut Its Doors For Good
It seems the final nail in the coffin has been hammered in at The Vampire’s Wife. Between the resolution of a significant HMRC debt and the fallout of MatchesFashion’s closure, the brand has made the tough decision to permanently shut its operations.
The much-loved label was founded in 2015 by Susie Cave, and quickly gained favour amongst the style set for its signature gothic glamour, bold prints and classic silhouettes. The Vampire’s Wife was also a firm favourite of many notable celebrities, including the current Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
The Vampire’s Wife, which cited ‘upheaval in the wholesale market’ as the primary reason for its closure, has not discussed any specific details – but, as mentioned, it’s suspected that the collapse of online retailer MatchesFashion back in March had something to do with the brand’s current state of affairs. The retailer was bought by the Frasers Group in December 2023, and then placed into administration a few months later, leaving a number of brands (including The Vampire’s Wife) unpaid.

Taking to Instagram, Cave wrote a short note to her followers reflecting on her time with the brand. ‘After ten years as the creative director of The Vampire’s Wife, it is time for me to say goodbye,’ she said. ‘I say this with great sadness and want to express my undying gratitude to you all for your support. I wish to thank my extended family at The Vampire’s Wife who helped me create such beautiful things. I cannot describe how much you have all meant to me.’
The Low Down: The Vampire’s Wife Goodbye Sale
Alongside the announcement of its imminent closure, The Vampire’s Wife shared it would be offering one final opportunity to shop current, archive and previous season stock from the brand. Dubbed the ‘Goodbye Sale’, the event will be held in one of London’s favourite sample sale spots over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
