Vestiaire's Resale Buying Guide highlights the top brands, products and trends to invest in this season

The preloved luxury market is booming – and it’s apparent that shoppers don’t just want the designer label, they want the designer label at the best price possible. But where to start looking? Vestiaire Collective has just launched its Resale Buying Guide 2025, a new guide designed to help its community identify which brands, pieces and key trends are driving the resale market. These are the key takeaways for Spring/Summer 2025.

Vestiaire Collective Launches Resale Buying Guide

If we ever needed a secondhand buying bible, now’s the time. ‘As we see the price of luxury soar and fast fashion reigns supreme, finding value for money spent on your wardrobe is no mean feat,’ says Sophie Hersan, Vestiaire Collective Co-founder and Fashion Director. ‘Brands have increased prices between 25 to 50 percent in the last five years, and we’ve seen a significant increase in negotiations on our platform since September of last year, so it’s clear our community is looking to make their money go further.

‘With this in mind, we’ve created our inaugural Resale Buying Guide with a focus on finding the best value, no matter your budget. From top brands to invest in to the designer steals that sold fastest, I hope this guide will help you make the best choices for your wallet, as well as your wardrobe.’

Below, we’ve rounded up some of our key takeaways from the report – as well as what to expect over the upcoming season.

Resale Buying Guide Spring Summer 2025: 5 Key Takeaways

1. French & Italian Fashion Houses Come Out On Top

This won’t be a big surprise for many. According to Vestiaire, legacy luxury labels continue to hold a monopoly over the preloved market – with the likes of Chanel, Gucci, Dior and Prada heralded as wise investments.

The resale platform puts Chanel at the top of the pack, with a Vestiaire Value Ranking of 1404 points, followed closely by Louis Vuitton and Hermès with 1227 and 1156 points respectively. The ranking is determined by cross-referencing sales, five-year resale value growth, items sold, likes, searches and price offers on over 400 brands.

What notably stood out to Vestiaire’s data analysts was that Chanel had the highest number of product views per person, while Gucci led the way in preloved sales. Dior and Prada, meanwhile, saw their resale value creep up by 12 and 11 percent respectively over the last five years – indicating a huge growth in preloved luxury shopping when it comes to legacy brands.

2. Vivienne Westwood Leads As A British Cult Favourite

For those that like to branch out beyond the classics, Vestiaire also curated a list of the industry’s cult favourite brands for preloved shopping. Determined using a ranking system defined by expert insights and Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) resale prices over the last five years, the platform pinpointed the likes of Miu Miu, Loewe, Alaïa, The Row and Maison Martin Margiela for contemporary styles that don’t always follow the norm.

But flying the flag for Britain was Vivienne Westwood, which sat at No. 48 in Vestiaire’s global ranking index. ‘Westwood moved up two positions and garnered double the average amount of likes as the rest of the top 50, helped by the Y2K revival bringing renewed interest in its iconic corsets and pearl necklaces, which can easily be found under $500,’ noted the platform.

Vivienne Westwood also remained consistent on Vestiaire’s list of Top 10 Designer Brands (also estimated by the Vestiaire Value Ranking), sitting in the tenth spot throughout the last three months. It’s a good indicator that the label will continue to retain its popularity over a longer period of time, rather than experience the spike and drop (or ‘hype-decline’, as Vestiaire calls it) that some brands encounter.

3. A Preloved Dior Saddle Bag Is Snapped Up In As Little A Minute

‘Flying off the shelf’ takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to online shopping. The secondhand market’s consistent slashing of heady RRPs means that you’re bound to find a bargain or two – and for some, the race is really on to sweep up a deal.

European shoppers had the most impressive stats here, with one instance of a Dior saddle bag being snapped up in just one minute and 37 seconds. The Vestiaire team highlight that those who shop on the platform’s app can set up alerts, so that they’ll ‘never miss a great deal or a new price drop on [their’] favourite styles.’ The result? Blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bargains.

4. The Vintage Boom Isn’t Slowing Down

‘Once the domain of collectors and archivists, we’re seeing a real vintage boom that’s putting designers of the past centre stage,’ says Vestiaire Collective. ‘But it’s not just vintage’s demand that’s growing – its value is too.’

The platform has noticed a huge 220 percent growth in vintage listings over the last five years, with preloved sales also massively on the rise. ‘What’s really fascinating is the growth in pre-loved sales, fuelled by fashion fans who are catching on to the fact that designer vintage can be snapped up for as little as $100 – a particularly interesting stat in the era of the vintage re-releases, à la the runways of Dior and Gucci,’ highlights the shopping platform. ‘Those shoppers who are sick of the micro-trend cycle are finding comfort in the timeless appeal of vintage designs, opting for fashionably distressed bags (a look pioneered by the Olsen twins) and outfits that transcend the fads, offering more wear for less money.’

And the top vintage products? Bags, of course. Bags are considered one of the wisest investments in the luxury resale market, as they aren’t as limited by sizing or microtrends. The top five most-sold vintage items on Vestiaire Collective last year were all bags – and all heritage designer bags. Coming up top was the Chanel Timeless, followed by the Gucci Jackie, Louis Vuitton Speedy, Gucci Hobo and the Fendi Baguette.

5. Despite Timelessness, Trends Still Matter

While timelessness remains the major appeal of preloved shopping, Vestiaire does highlight that trends also still hold sway over the market. And this season, a few core trends stand out: ‘Cue plenty of sugary-sweet pastels, 80s-inspired power suits, and an abundance of animal print (obviously).’

The Spring/Summer 2025 colour palette is dominated by shades of mocha mousse, butter yellow and pastels, while bubble skirts, vintage tailoring (especially a strong shoulder pad) and preppy designs take the styling lead. As for microtrends, expect a return of all things animal print (from leopard to zebra to cow), as well as slouchy, oversized bags decorated with a curated stack of bag charms.
