Is Aura Beauty 2025’s Next Big Makeup Trend?

Moody hues just took on a whole new meaning

ICYMI: earlier this month, Pinterest released its mammoth annual trend report for 2025. And while heads might be turning towards the likes of castlecore, fisherman aesthetic and maxi interiors, our attention is firmly fixed on aura beauty. ‘2025 will be the year of the make-up mood ring,’ declares the image-sharing platform. ‘Gen Z and Boomers are driving this high hue look that’s all about zeroing in on a colour aesthetic and flaunting it from chin to cheek. Find your aura, wear it with confidence and consider yourself dipped in vibes all day long.’

Intrigued? Here’s how to tap into the trend, according to beauty experts.

What Is The Aura Beauty Trend?

As highlighted by Pinterest, the aura beauty trend uses a brightly hued makeup palette that echoes the mood of the wearer. ‘The aura beauty trend is all about reflecting how you feel on the inside, and portraying that on the outside through makeup,’ explains Sophie Vongkhamsao, a in-house beauty and content specialist at Fresha. ‘The trend encourages people to get creative by matching the colour of their makeup to their mood, typically matching the colour of the blush and the eyeshadow to create an all in one cohesive look.’

So the emphasis here is on high-octane colour. In its report, Pinterest noted a 35 percent increase in searches for ‘aura effect’, as well as a 365 percent lift for ‘full-colour make-up eyes’.

But where did the trend come from? ‘It all started with aura nails, where pigments were used over a solid colour to create a mood ring effect,’ notes Sophie. ‘It has now evolved into makeup looks and we expect this to carry over into hair colours with people being much more experimental. We love the idea of changing up your hair colour every now and then and doing a makeup look based on your mood – it sounds so fun!’

How To Recreate The Look With Makeup

Fancy giving the aura beauty trend a go? Sophie breaks down the look into three steps:

Blush

‘The first step is to apply your blush,’ Sophie instructs. ‘If you’re feeling uplifted and happy an orange toned blush would work well, but if you’re feeling mysterious or spiritual, a purple blush would be better suited. Sweep the blush across the apples of your cheeks and upwards towards the temples, for a full-hued look.’

Eyes

Then it’s onto the eyes. ‘Focusing on the eyes, we recommend using a primer to ensure any colour pops,’ says our beauty expert. ‘You might want to apply a similar, complementary colour to your blusher to give some dimension to the look. Using a fluffy blush, make sure to blend it out, and then complete the look, apply mascara, eyeliner and a coat of shimmery gloss to give an ethereal warmth.’

Finishing Touches

Sophie tells us the last steps are all about polishing and refining the look. ‘I’d suggest using a liquid or cream highlighter with a pearlescent or holographic finish to make the look really sparkle,’ she says. ‘However, make sure to use a setting spray with a dewy or luminous finish to lock in your makeup and enhance the glow.’
