Be the best present under the tree this year

Christmas tree, O Christmas tree – your branches green inspire us (and our nail techs). Festive manicures are hot on the horizon, with 25 December just around the corner. But one of the biggest beauty trends of the season has to be Christmas tree nails. Here’s how to get the look at home, plus some inspiration to take with you to the salon.

What Are Christmas Tree Nails?

Decorated in festive greens, golds and glitters, a Christmas tree manicure sees nails take on one of the season’s most beloved symbols. With pine decals dotted across nails, dressed in baubles, tinsel and snow, it’s the perfect trend for those wanting to embrace the holidays.

The focal components of the look are simple: emerald green, a gold star and some kind of (preferably sparkling) decoration. From there, you can run wild. Think abstract green shapes dotted with miniature baubles, chrome silhouettes, tree-shaped French nails and, of course, the classic triangular pine tree.

How To Ask For Christmas Tree Nails In The Salon

You’ll need to do more that just ask for Christmas tree nails. There’s no one way to take on the trend – you can be as big and bold or as sleek and minimal with your manicure as you want – which means you’ll need to let your nail tech know exactly what you want. If you’re stuck for words, you can use pictures from Instagram and Pinterest to get your vision across.

Can You Recreate The Look At Home?

If you fancy exerting some festive flair on your own, however, read on. Here’s how to create a simple set of Christmas tree nails at home:

  1. Prep The Nails:
  2. Apply A Base Colour: Cover the entire nail with a base colour of your choice, ensuring you apply two to three thin coats (with drying time between coats).
  3. Guide Dots: Lay out the shape of your tree with guide dots. Use a dotting tool and green polish to create three dots on the nail, in the shape of a triangle. This will serve as the base of the tree.
  4. Paint The Tree: Use the dotting tool again to connect the dots and build the tree shape, adding more dots and lines as needed.
  5. Add Sparkles: It’s time to decorate the tree. Apply glitter, mini gemstones and sticks to create ornaments for the tree – making sure you have a star to put on the top. (If not, some yellow or gold polish will do the trick.)
  6. Finishing Touches: Seal the design with a top coat, ensure the layers beneath have had enough time to set and dry.
