Meet 2025's latest trendy chop
Bob season is upon us – and next up in the spotlight is the laidback, relaxed, fluffy bob. Here’s everything you need to know.
What Is A Fluffy Bob?
‘A fluffy bob is a slightly longer, more textured version of the classic bob haircut,’ explains Zoe Adams, International Artist at Taylor Taylor London. ‘It emphasises volume, softness and movement, often incorporating layers, light waves and a tousled finish for a relaxed, effortless vibe.’
And, compared to a classic bob, it has a much more casual ‘I just woke up like this appeal’. As Zoe highlights, ‘unlike sharper, sleeker bobs, the fluffy bob has a more casual, windswept appearance that feels natural and has more movement. It’s less about precision and more about creating a soft, voluminous look.’

The fluffy bob also appears to be a hit on the celebrity circuit too. ‘The likes of Hailey Bieber, Sydney Sweeney and Gigi Hadid have further popularised the cut, influencing its rise in salons and making it a sought-after look,’ notes Zoe. ‘And after a summer of sharp and sleek styles, the softer, textured fluffy bob offers a refreshing alternative that feels more relaxed and wearable for the cooler months.’
Who Suits This Cut?
It’s good news: the versatility of this bob style makes it a good fit for pretty much anyone. ‘It’s just about tailoring it to the individual,’ says Zoe. ‘Round faces benefit from a high bob cut above the jawline, which creates definition and elongates the face. For square or angular faces, a collarbone-length bob with soft layers helps to soften sharp angles, while a jaw-skimming bob accentuates the elegance of a slim neck.
‘In terms of hair types, the fluffy bob works best with hair that has some natural texture,’ she adds. ‘But even straight or fine hair can achieve the look with the right layering and styling techniques.’
How To Ask For A Fluffy Bob In The Salon
As always, make sure to attend your appointment prepared with references. ‘When asking for a fluffy bob, it’s helpful to bring photos of styles you love to communicate your vision clearly,’ emphasises Zoe. ‘Use terms like “soft layers”, “added texture” and “a voluminous, tousled finish” to ensure your stylist understands the look you’re after. Be open to discussing how the style can be adjusted to suit your face shape and features.’

How To Style A Fluffy Bob
And when it comes to styling, Zoe tells us that fluffy bob looks it’s best when ‘fluffed’ – aka, when you’ve tapped into its natural texture. ‘To style a fluffy bob, start by applying a volumising mousse or texturising spray to create body and movement,’ she says. ‘Then blow-dry your hair upside down or use a round brush to lift the roots, adding fullness to the style.
‘For loose waves, use a curling wand and finish with texturising spray for dry hair; this provides a tousled, effortless finish and enhances the natural texture of the cut,’ she continues. ‘If your hair tends to fall flat, a lightweight volumising shampoo and conditioner can help create the foundation for a bouncy and airy bob.’
As for maintenance, it’s recommended to visit the salon every six to 12 weeks. ‘Regular trims, along with the right combination of products, will keep the style looking fresh and healthy,’ confirms Zoe.
What Next?
This won’t be the last you see of the fluffy bob, says Zoe. ‘Expect increased experimentation with choppy layers, curtain bangs, or unique textures will add new dimensions to the look,’ she says. ‘Length variations, such as hybrid styles like the “lob” (long bob) or slightly shaggier cuts, are also likely to grow in popularity.’
