We have eyebrow envy

Emily in Paris is finally back on our screens for another season of romance and drama. It’s also another opportunity to see Lily Collins in action once more as Emily Cooper. While a love triangle may take centre stage this season, we have our sights set on an equally as iconic facet of the show: Emily’s fabulous eyebrows. While Emily Cooper may have had our hearts since 2020, Lily Collins – in particular, her eyebrows – has been on our beauty radar for far longer. Want to embrace your inner French girl? Here’s how to get the actor’s look.

How To Get Eyebrows Like Lily Collins

If there’s one thing we can agree on, it’s that a well-shaped eyebrow is a work of art (and dexterity). Known for her full, expressive brows, Lily Collins is a master in this practice. And with her return to Netlfix’s Emily in Paris this summer, we can see just how the actor uses her brows to emote Emily’s reactions to the ups and downs of her story.

But how does one tap into their inner Emily, exactly? According to the experts, it all starts with growth. ‘Achieving full, natural brows like Lily Collins’s requires patience,’ says brow expert and Rubis Tweezers founder Fides Baldesberger. ‘Start by letting your brows grow out for at least six weeks –resist the urge to pluck too soon. To support growth, using a nourishing brow serum with ingredients like peptides or castor oil can be a game-changer.’

It’s only once your eyebrows are full and fluffy that you should start shaping and styling them, explains Baldesberger. ‘Once your brows are ready, use tweezers clean up stray hairs,’ she says. ‘Focus on the bottom of your brows to maintain that natural thickness.

‘To get that signature feathered look, brush your brows upward using a spoolie or even a clean toothbrush, then set them with a clear brow gel,’ Baldesberger continues. ‘The goal is a soft, natural finish – not overly sculpted. Embrace any slight imperfections, as they add to the effortless Parisian chic we all love.’

How Does Lily Collins Do Her Eyebrows?

The woman herself has spoken about taking a more minimal approach to her brows, with very little plucking and styling. Speaking to Vogue in a ‘Beauty Secrets’ segment, the actor shared her skincare and makeup routine, where she gave some insight on how she cultivated her now-famous brows.

While applying highlighter, she explained, ‘I like to make sure that I’m putting just under the brow right there to enhance and highlight the shape of the brow. Because for me, shape is key.’

Collins went on to recount a pivotal moment that encouraged her to take better care of her brows. ‘You know, interestingly enough, [my eyebrows were] not always something that I embraced,’ she said. ‘I made the mistake a couple times – and one very specific time – of overly plucking them. I remember going to dinner one night with my mom, being very proud of what I had done. She stared at me, and she was just like, “What have you done? They may never grow back.” And so from that day forward, I’ve been way more vigilant on not over plucking, and I’ve learned to embrace them.

‘For me, they’re one of my favourite qualities about beauty and skincare, because they say so much about your personality,’ she continued. ‘They really help accentuate any of your emotions, because your brows – as you can see, as I’m probably talking – they’re like lifting up in excitement. I think they’re just something that’s so fun to embrace and enhance about your face.’

As for styling her brows, Collins explained that she likes to use a spoolie to help refine the shape. ‘So that being said, the next thing that I love to do is brush them out,’ she said. ‘So, I just like to go up [with the spoolie], and bring it over.’ You can watch her technique here.

Top Tricks For Growing Out Your Brows

1. Avoid Tweezing & Waxing

As Lily Collins herself said, avoiding overplucking is the best thing you can do when it comes to your eyebrows. During periods of serious regrowth, it’s best to completely refrain from from using tweezers, wax or any hair removal methods – usually for around 15 weeks. This should allow your brows to grow without interruption.

2. Try Brow Serums

Hair growth serums are all the rage these days – especially when it comes to brows. Brow serums that contain peptides can gently stimulate hair follicles, leading to thicker and longer strands.

3. Use Minimal Makeup

Heavy makeup on growing brows is also a bit of a no-no. While the hairs are growing, you’ll want to avoid using products like pomades and gels that can tug at the stands (and prematurely pull them out). If you still want to apply product, opt for lighter brow gels with fibres. These can help create the appearance of fuller brows during the regrowth phase.

4. Tweak Your Diet

While you don’t need to make any major changes here, you can make small tweaks to what you eat to encourage hair growth. Staying well-hydrated and eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help – especially foods high in vitamins A, C, and E, alongside omega-3 fatty acids.

5. Be Patient

And finally, be patient. This isn’t a process that will come to fruition overnight. Eyebrow growth takes time, and can take anywhere from three to six months to see significant results. New hairs may grow in odd spots and at different angles, but leaving them to do their thing will eventually allow your brows to take shape.
