The Round Bob Is The Classic Hairstyle Making A Comeback This Season

This is one for the low-maintenance girlies
We’re not ready to say goodbye to our bob just yet – and luckily, we won’t have to. The latest trend making the rounds at the salon is the round bob, a sleek and low-maintenance take on the classic hairdo.
What Is A Round Bob?
‘A round bob is a modern take on the classic bob haircut that features a bowl-like shape, with shorter pieces around the front that create a rounded effect, framing the face,’ explains Billy Supple, senior stylist at ADEM London. ‘This design gives the haircut its distinctive look, making it softer and more voluminous compared to traditional blunt or angled bobs.’
But the beauty of this cut, Billy tells us, lies in its low-maintenance appeal. ‘The round bob has become a go-to winter haircut because it’s so easy to style,’ he confirms. ‘The shorter length means less drying time, and the textured front pieces allow for versatility. You can let it air dry for a relaxed, natural look or blow-dry the front sections to emphasize the shape and texture. Its adaptable nature makes it suitable for various occasions, adding to its popularity.’

And it’s also got the celebrity seal of approval. Swifties in particular will be familiar with the trend, having celebrated Taylor Swift’s stylish bob era. ‘One of the most iconic examples is Taylor Swift, who sported a round bob during her rise to fame,’ highlights Billy. ‘Her haircut featured that signature rounded shape with front texture, embodying a chic and youthful style that many people associate with the cut.’
How Does It Differ From Other Bobs?
It’s been a big year for bobs – so, what sets it apart from other short hairstyles? ‘Unlike other bob styles, which often have a uniform length or an angular cut, the round bob is characterised by its curved shape and added texture at the front,’ says Billy. ‘While a blunt bob might have sharp, straight edges and an A-line bob would be longer at the front, the round bob’s shorter front pieces create a soft, face-framing effect.’
Who Suits This Cut?
‘The round bob works particularly well on straighter hair types, as the natural texture helps to emphasize the curved shape,’ explains Billy. ‘And when it comes to face shapes, this style tends to complement oval faces best, as the rounded silhouette enhances facial symmetry.’
But that’s not to say you can’t make it work. ‘With some adjustments, it can also be adapted for other face shapes.’

How To Ask For A Round Bob In The Salon
‘To get a round bob, ask your stylist for a classic bob with some texture and shorter pieces around the front to create that bowl-like effect,’ recommends Billy. ‘Mention if you’d like to incorporate a fringe or bangs to enhance the look. There’s no special preparation needed before getting this haircut, but bringing a few reference photos can help ensure you and your stylist are on the same page.’
How To Style A Round Bob
As Billy mentioned, there are plenty of ways to make this bob hairstyle shine – without exerting too much effort. ‘For best results, use a round brush while blow-drying to give the hair some lift and bevel the ends inward,’ suggests Billy. ‘This technique will help define the rounded shape and add volume where needed.’
And for the low-maintenance wearer: ‘If you prefer a more relaxed style, you can also let the hair air dry, perhaps using a lightweight styling cream to maintain the texture.’
What Next?
This cut is here to stay, says Billy. ‘The round bob is already an adaptation of the classic bob, so it’s unlikely to undergo significant changes,’ he explains. ‘However, there could be variations in styling, such as experimenting with different fringe lengths or playing with subtle colour highlights to add dimension. As trends evolve, we might see the round bob paired with more layers or used as a base for creative texturising techniques.’
