‘A soft sculpt pixie is a short haircut with soft edges that has been styled in a sculpted way to frame the face,’ explains Stéphane Ferraira, senior colourist at Live True London. ‘The key difference here is that this cut has been styled to look structured, instead of feathery and wispy like other pixie cuts.’
The last year has been big for short hairstyles – especially the pixie cut. And, with more focus thrown on the cut, it makes sense that we’re starting to see more variation in how it’s styled. Softer takes on the pixie in particular are proving popular on TikTok, too. A quick search on the platform reveals over 13.1 million posts tagged under #softpixiecut. ‘Pixie cuts have been rising in popularity lately, with many celebrities adopting different pixie cut styles,’ confirms Stéphane. ‘This more structured look is a twist on the more wispy styles.’

Who Suits This Cut?
While the pixie cut is a hairstyle that anyone can try, a few characteristics will help make styling of the soft sculpt version a lot easier. ‘This cut is more suited to fine or straight hair, as it is easier to achieve a more structured look,’ says Stéphane.
How To Ask For A Soft Sculpt Pixie Cut In The Salon?
‘Ask for a pixie cut with soft edges,’ recommends Stéphane. ‘Make sure to also bring photos with you so your stylist can understand what you’re looking for. In the past we’ve spotted celebs like Jourdan Dunn, Zoe Kravitz and Zendaya wearing the trend, so you can start with these when it comes to finding inspo images.’
How To Style A Soft Sculpt Pixie Cut
The key to nailing a soft sculpt pixie lies in its structure. The goal is to create a clean, chic look, rather than something messy. ‘Use a fine tooth comb to brush the hair into the desired position,’ suggests Stéphane. ‘Then use a styling gel or hairspray to hold your cut in a structured shape.’

How To Maintain A Soft Sculpt Pixie Cut
‘Pixie cuts require a great deal of maintenance,’ says Stéphane. ‘You can therefore expect to be back in the stylist’s chair every four to six weeks for a trim if you plan on maintaining the shape and length of the cut.’
What Next?
As for next steps, Stéphane sees this sculpted look making its way across the salon. ‘We expect the sculpted element of the cut to be translated into other styles,’ she says. ‘Think bobs and longer cuts, with that face-framing, clean finish.’
