But how does it work? And does it work? We map it all out in our guide below.
How To Find A Perfume That Matches Your Venus Sign
What Is A Venus Sign?
Not to be confused with your sun sign, which is your main class, your Venus sign refers to which zodiac sign the planet Venus was in when you were born. ‘Our birth chart is an identical representation of the night sky at the precise time we were born,’ explained Miranda Holder, a stylist known as the Feelgood Fashion Coach, in our guide to Venus dressing. ‘They contain all of the signs in different places as well as the sun and moon and eight planets, of which Venus is one. As the planets do move, Venus could be situated in any zodiac sign; it’s easy enough to find out which one by entering your exact birth date and time into one of the many astrology apps or websites.’
‘Everyone has a Venus sign,’ adds Audree Barvé, resident astrologer at Soulstice London. ‘Venus specifically is all about beauty and pleasure, both on a material, physical, sensorial level and an aesthetic one. It rules art, design, fashion, beauty, food – anything you can interact with in life that is of beauty and pleasure. When we look at it as a personal thing, we are looking at how this sign interacts with each person. Each sign can give us clues on how each person works.’
How To Find Your Venus Sign
You can find your Venus sign with the help of online calculators like those on Cafe Astrology or Astrostyle, or on an astrology app like Co-Star or Astra. The details you’ll need to work it out include your date of birth, as well as the time and location you were born.
How Can It Influence Our Attractiveness?
Not sure how the stars can help us get our spritz on? Well, it all comes down to attractiveness. According to astrology, Venus plays a vital role in nurturing attraction. ‘When it comes to attractiveness, beauty is subjective,’ says Audree. ‘So, depending on your Venus sign, you will attract different types of people who are attracted to your qualities. It can also influence what you are attracted to. For example, if your Venus sign is in an air sign, you will connect with people in a way that is intellectual.
‘Venus rules all the senses, including smell,’ she continues. ‘This is a giant factor, since smell as a sense brings us back to memory. It can create a new world for us and enhance experiences.’

This means, in theory, that listening to our Venus sign’s cues can help us narrow down the clothing, makeup and perfume that best suits our astrological personality. ‘When finding a perfume it would make sense to look at your Venus sign,’ agrees Audree. ‘This could highlight what we are attracted to, but also help certain Venus signs find their perfect scent.
‘It’s important to remember that Venus is somewhat emotional. It concerns itself with how we connect with people and how we want to present to people in a deep, physical and emotional way. Presenting ourselves through smell – through perfume – is huge, and using your Venus sign is a really smart way to find your perfume.’
Does The Element Matter?
Just like your sun sign, your Venus sign can also be swayed by its elemental property. ‘If you’re looking for fragrances based on your Venus sign, it’s good to start off by figuring out if your Venus is in an air, water, fire or earth sign,’ says Susan Wai Hnin, Chief Operating Officer and Global Director at perfume label Gabar. ‘For example, fire sign Venuses should look for bold, smokey or spicey scents with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, birch tar, oud or leather. Earth sign Venuses would suit woody or green or earthy scents with notes of sandalwood, wild fig or green tea that give off warmth and groundedness. Water sign Venuses should look for dreamy, aromatic scents with some depth to them. And air sign Venuses will likely prefer light florals with woody accents, as well as scents that play on balances and contrasts.’
But it’s worth noting that not every sign sharing the same element will be drawn to the same things. ‘Even within each elemental category there are slight differences depending on the specific Venus sign,’ says Susan. ‘A Scorpio Venus might be drawn to scents with some depth and intensity to them, while a Pisces Venus might gravitate towards softer, dreamier scents – even though both are water signs.’

Perfumes For…
Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
‘Fire signs are drawn to warmth, energy, vitality and confidence,’ says Audree. ‘Anything that has something strong and citrusy, that makes it feel full of life, will be what draws in a fire sign.’
How To Find A Perfume For An Aries Venus
Notes: spicy, warm, sharp, risky, noticeable, smokey, playfulness
‘Something quite bold and sharp would suit an Aries Venus,’ recommends Audree. ‘Aries is a cardinal sign so it’s quite direct. They’re the leaders, but also the toddlers, of the group, so there could be something playful in the scent too.’
Aries will thrive on fiery and smokey scents, but as Audree highlights they also like something a little more playful. Try something with an undertone of sweet spice, like cinnamon, that will add layers to the scent profile.
How To Find A Perfume For A Leo Venus
Notes: citrus, boldness, vibrancy, grapefruit, strawberries, playfulness, bergamot, fire
When it comes to a Leo Venus, it’s all about finding a scent that sets them apart from the crowd. ‘This is a grounded, fixed sign,’ say Audree. ‘A Leo Venus is well-rounded, consistent but bold, and shining. Think citrus blossom with vanilla, something sweet but also tangy and likeable.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Sagittarius Venus
Notes: adventurous scents, oud, saffron, ginger, mandarin, pine, fig, sage
Fruity notes sit at the top of the list for Sagittarius signs, as they create offer something bold and exciting. ‘A Sagittarius Venus is adventurous, so they will prioritise unique scents,’ says Audree. ‘It might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but it’s something new.’
Perfumes For Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
‘Earth signs are generally very sensorial,’ emphasises Audree. ‘They like to connect on a physical level, so anything that provides a sense of comfort in connection to body will stick out for them. Think more natural, organic scents, maybe more grassy. Moss, dirt, soil. Anything that really connects them to the ground.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Taurus Venus
Notes: food scents, vanilla, matcha, cotton, clay, coconut, olive, wood, earthiness
Classic fragrances flourish when worn by a Taurus Venus. ‘This is a fixed sign, so it likes to be consistent,’ says Audree. ‘Something simple yet comforting, something relaxing, will be what they gravitate to. They also like habits, so will probably use a fragrance over and over.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Virgo Venus
Notes: mossy, grass, cactus, soap, freshness, earthiness, sage, nutmeg
‘A Virgo Venus is more changeable based off of their mood and how they want to present,’ says Audree. ‘They’re also prone to movement and growth, as well as overthinking, so anything that can ground them back into the body to bring them back home will be a plus.’
With this in mind, natural scents should appeal most to this sign. Consider fragrances based in essential oils or natural ingredients like lavender, sage, tea tree oil or mint. Anything nature-inspired will be a winner.
How To Find A Perfume For A Capricorn Venus
Notes: tea, wood, cedar wood, clean scents, coffee, mountains, cloves, cinnamon
‘Another cardinal sign, a Capricorn Venus has an assertive quality that makes them lean into more traditional fragrances,’ says Audree. ‘They like when a scent reminds them of something that’s happily familiar.’
It’s also thought that a Capricorn Venus wants a perfume that makes them essentially feel rich or successful. ‘They like to imagine they want to be, so will most likely to wear something that might be beyond where they think they are. They dress to impress, and are very ambitious.’

Perfumes For Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
‘All air signs want something interesting, a conversation starter,’ highlights Audree. ‘They would love it if someone complimented them on how they smell. It’s more likely that an air sign in Venus will do more research into why they want to pick a certain scent, what’s trendy and out there, and what people would think when they smell a particular scent.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Gemini Venus
Notes: breeze, rain, florals, mimosa, lavender, berry
Something unexpected and varied is required for the Gemini Venus. ‘This is a changeable sign, so they might want to smell like different things depending on their mood (which shifts a lot),’ says Audree. ‘They want lots of variety, lots of complex scents or many scents they can choose from.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Libra Venus
Notes: cocktails, elegance, pastries, balanced, creamy, jasmine, peach
‘This sign feels at home in Venus,’ says Audree. ‘They like something balanced and harmonious. Anything they find beautiful or something considered a classic is always a winner. They’re going to go for something that really suits them but is in balance with the societal trends of fragrance.’
How To Find A Perfume For An Aquarius Venus
Notes: patchouli, eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, uniqueness, interesting
An Aquarius Venus should keep fresh, exciting scents in mind when finding their fragrance.’The more interesting the better,’ emphasises Audree. ‘They crave something that’s innovative and might blow up as a trend, but isn’t quite there yet. They like to stand out in the crowd and having something unique to them. They’re also more attracted to people that offer something different.’
Perfumes For Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
‘In general, water signs are led by their feelings and their emotion,’ explains Audree. ‘This means they might seek out perfumes that ignite a memory. This makes finding their signature scent very intuitive.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Cancer Venus
Notes: sweet, fresh, romantic, rose, milk, honey, vanilla
‘A Cancer Venus likes something that reminds them of home,’ says Audree. ‘Anything that feels familiar to them. For example, if their mum used to bake a rhubarb pie every summer they might pick a scent with notes of rhubarb and vanilla. They’re after a fragrance that is deeply personal. There will be a general sense of not straying far from the home, or gravitating towards what was popular during their childhood.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Scorpio Venus
Notes: wine, smoke, enchanting, depth, amber, musk, black currant, juniper, cardamom
‘The teenager of the water signs, a Scorpio Venus craves something darker,’ says Audree. ‘They’re not afraid of expressing themselves in terms of their shadow sides. They will want to push the boundaries of darkness and how they want to present. Fragrances that are a bit intoxicating will call to them. Think scents of the night: red wine, smoke, something you might experience on a night out.’
How To Find A Perfume For A Pisces Venus
Notes: seaweed, seawater, ylang ylang, chamomile, psychedelic, kumquat
‘This is a mutable water sign, meaning they are connected to the other world beyond the physical,’ Audree emphasises. ‘They are deeply intuitive about the people they want around them, but also the sensory experiences they want. Something they want is to connect to all the elements, although it can be quite changeable in how they’d like to express in this way. They might find themselves drawn to salt water, something that connects them to nature or heightens their sense of spirituality. They want to present as otherworldly; the aliens of the zodiac.’
How To Find Your Fragrance Quickly
You can use an AI chat to find a quick answer to Venus fragrance queries. In his videos, TikTok user Christian Walker recommends using the AI astrology app Astra to find your signature fragrance. ‘First thing your gonna do is grab Astra in the app store,’ he instructs. ‘Once in the app, you’re gonna go to Ask Me Anything right at the top. Then you’re simply gonna ask Astra “What is my Venus sign, and what fragrances can I layer to highlight it and smell delicious?”
‘If you’re not even sure where to start you can ask Astra for specific recommendations of products and brands, and it will spit out a ton of information of brands that have the best fragrances that match your Venus sign.’

Should We Be Choosing Perfumes Based On Our Star Sign?
Consulting the stars on your next perfume purchase can be fun, but it’s not the only way you can find your signature fragrance. You can rely on your personal preferences if you don’t resonate with your Venus sign’s pick. ‘While you don’t always need it, I think using your Venus sign can be a helpful tool when it comes to perfume. It can help refine the general essence of what you want to go for, what you might want to achieve with that smell or how you want to feel,’ says Audree. ‘It’s like how clothes can make us feel like a certain person or bring confidence to us in a certain way; anything stylistic can enhance how we feel in our bodies.’
