The lovely spring weather has finally arrived, just in time for International Walk to Work Day. There’s no better reason to get moving and rack up your daily steps – FitFlop are encouraging participants to get involved and share the number of steps they’ve walked on social media using #WalktoWorkDay.

There are endless benefits to walking to work – not only does it mean you’ll burn calories before your morning muffin, but also it’s a way to get to know your city better and enjoy a different commute. Anything that doesn’t involve being trapped beneath armpits on the Victoria Line is fine by us…

A few facts courtesy of FitFlop to help you on your way:

  • Just 20 minutes of daily walking can reduce your risk of premature death by almost a third
  • According to research from Stanford University, walking boosts creative output by an average of 60 percent
  • Fewer cars on the road means less air pollution production
  • You’ll save money otherwise spent on transport
  • It’s a great way to get to know your local area – shops, green spaces, river walks

If you’ve already suffered the morning commute, how about walking home from work instead? It’s set to be sunny and warm all day, so you have the perfect excuse to get your tan on as you stroll into the weekend – and stopping by a few pubs on the way is certainly encouraged.
