Racing season is just around the corner – you can find all of 2025’s important dates here – and with a new year comes some exciting changes. The latest? A brand new trophy for the Randox Grand National, designed by none other than Boodles.

Boodles Celebrates Its Ties To Liverpool With Grand National Trophy Design

Boodles has solidified itself in the landscape of British horse racing over the years – especially when it comes to the Grand National. Held at Aintree Racecourse (just a few miles from Liverpool and the Boodles head office), the event remains one of the most prestigious on the equestrian sporting calendar.

Boodles, which began its journey all the way back in 1798 as a local Liverpudlian jeweller, has continued to play a huge role in the history of the Grand National. Having started out as a silversmith, trading under the name Boodles & Dunthorne, the jeweller specialised in silver, jewellery and antiques – and quickly garnered a reputation for excellence in craftsmanship. So much so, that it became the go-to silversmith for the Grand National trophy between 1937 and 1975.

And now, history has come full circle. ‘Boodles is delighted to be partnering with Randox to design the 2025 Randox Grand National trophy,’ said Boodles Chairman, Michael Wainwright. ‘This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate both the rich heritage of the Grand National and our longstanding connection to Aintree, with our company’s roots tracing back to 1798 in Liverpool, just a stone’s throw from the racecourse. We are honoured to play a part in commemorating this world-famous event with Randox.’

‘The Randox Grand National Trophy is a symbol of prestige, achievement, and history, and this year’s design by Boodles beautifully reflects these qualities,’ added Dickon White, Regional Director West and Aintree Racecourse. ‘Their deep-rooted connection to both artistry and equestrian heritage makes them the perfect partner to create such an iconic piece.’

Design Notes

This year’s trophy brings together the identities of Boodles, Randox and the Grand National through a celebration of racing and human progress. Starting with Randox, the Grand National’s sponsor, the trophy features a biochip-inspired design set on a green malachite base echoing the brand’s signature colour.

‘This year’s Randox Grand National Trophy, crafted by Boodles, is a stunning fusion of tradition and innovation,’ commented Dr. Peter Fitzgerald, Founder and Managing Director of Randox. ‘Its design, inspired by both Randox’s advancements in preventative healthcare and the rich legacy of the Grand National, is a fitting tribute to this world-renowned race. We are proud to collaborate with Boodles to celebrate excellence, heritage, and our shared commitment to pushing boundaries.’

Boodles also weaves in subtle nods to Aintree by giving the molecular structure and DNA helix 16 spheres and bars respectively – reflecting the 16 jumps of the Grand National course. Speaking on these subtleties, Aintree’s Dickon White said: ‘The trophy seamlessly blends Randox’s pioneering spirit with the enduring legacy of the Randox Grand National, resulting in a design that is both contemporary and timeless.’
