My Style: Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen
What was your inspiration behind your current S/S ’20 collection?
It was our experiences of our extensive travel through Japan, and how Japanese street style has had such a massive influence on international fashion.
What are your favourite pieces from the collection and why?
Our favourite looks are the blue pleated Finally dress, inspired by ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’, an iconic artwork by Hokusai. The dress was made from 100 per cen single use recycled plastics and pleated with a tree bark and ripples with wires to create the rolling waves of ruffles.
What can we expect to see from you next season A/W ’20?
We were inspired by the ‘Don’t Look Now’, the 1970s film, starring Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland, set in Venice. We were drawn to the combination of the tweed and suits they wear in the film and the historical religious icons of Venice.
Do you have a muse?
No, we design with modern women in mind.
Whose style do you really admire?
We are always thrilled to see women experimenting with style, an unexpected flourish or a flash of colour. It’s not what they wear it’s the way they wear it.
As you’re working from home, what is your daily uniform?
It’s all about comfort! We are wrapped in Preen Home Eiderdowns for that extra bit of home style.
Do you have any words of wisdom for working from home?
We find that to focus on what we can control and not what we can’t, helps.
What are you wearing for any Zoom/Skype meetings?
Cashmere.
What have you rediscovered in your wardrobe?
Slippers.
Power dressing: what outfit makes you feel like you can conquer the world?
It’s all about personality and wearing something that makes you feel you. If a delicate floral feels like you, then walk into that meeting like you’re floating on air and you will be respected and remembered.
Has being at home made you think about the way you buy or consume products?
Yes, more and more; our company has slowly been moving to a sustainable product, but now we want to push it more and work as near to 100 per cent as possible.
Three items that would really pick you up if they were delivered to your door?
Fresh flowers from Scarlet and Violet, a delicious meal from Rosemary Ferguson’s 5 day plan, and new colouring pencils for our Preen colouring in print (downloadable from our website) – we are running out of them.
What are you most enjoying about WFH?
Spending so much time with our kids.
When you are able to go on your next holiday, where will you?
Ibiza, with lots of friends and family.
What will you be wearing for the party when we’re all allowed outside again?
The blue wave Belinda Dress from our S/S ’20 collection [Thea].
