Tom Daley Drops a Cottagecore Knitwear Line, Made With Love
Ever since Tom Daley was snapped knitting poolside, there’s been a frenzy of attention on his hand-stitched creations – whether that’s his medal pouches or Team GB cardigan. As a result, his knitting Instagram account @MadeWithLoveByTomDaley gained over one million followers in just two weeks, which now boasts a humble 1.4m followers.
The collection dropping today is named 1896. It’s a tacit nod to the year which held the first international Olympics games in modern history, and it’s the running theme of inspiration for the collection which ranges from the novelty to every day: featuring knit kits for jumpers, cardigans, accessories.
Using biodegradable and renewable pure wool, the collection is tailored to both the beginner and knitting enthusiast, across a price range from ÂŁ30 to ÂŁ220. Each kit comes with all the needles, yarn and knitting patterns you need to create your own masterpiece. Within the collection, Made With Love is launching a Christmas jumper and a Christmas stocking where each product can be personalised and tweaked to someone’s own style by choosing their own chunky yarn colour. Perfect for Christmas.
Like many people during the pandemic, the Olympic swimmer found knitting a great way to alleviate the stresses of everyday life. ‘Over the past two years, knitting has been my saviour,’ Tom says. ‘It’s been a form of mindfulness in between training and competing, and a way to pass the time while I’ve been travelling or sat at home during lockdowns. I bring my knitting everywhere and I feel like I’ve accomplished something every time I make something new. I like to think knitting is making a comeback so I look forward to people giving it a try if they haven’t before, making things they can actually wear.’
