Escaping London for a few days to enjoy the tranquillity of the Lake District is the perfect way to usher in the winter – especially staying at Aquila. A luxurious lakehouse perched on the glistening shoreline of Haweswater in the enchanting Mardale Valley, here’s how the Tesla Powerwall 3 has transformed the property into an eco retreat.
Aquila: A Stunning Lakehouse Retreat
Nestled amid the tarns and fells, Aquila offers an exceptional setting for a weekend escape from the city. The open-plan living spaces welcome light and the stunning surroundings indoors, while the interiors blend rustic charm and fresh modern design delightfully, with almost every detail of the house curated to complement the beauty of its natural environment.
Featuring the cutting-edge Tesla Powerwall 3, Aquila also showcases impressive sustainability credentials. Capable of storing energy for use during the day, at night, or even during outages, this advanced system efficiently powers the home while providing peace of mind, and demonstrates how effortlessly renewable energy can be integrated into everyday living, blending innovation with practicality.
Aquila’s setting also offers unexpected decadence: its proximity to The Haweswater Hotel, a beautifully restored art deco-lover’s heaven. Built in 1937 as part of the Haweswater Dam project, this iconic hotel is full of modernist design and carefully curated art pieces. Stopping by for some post-walk refreshment felt like stepping into another era, with beauty in the natural surroundings enveloping its exterior.
No trip to the Lake District is complete without venturing out for a long hike. With our children in tow, we explored some of the area’s scenic trails and, had it been a few degrees warmer, I am sure we would have jumped at the chance to take a dip in one of the many places that were open to swimmers. On our final morning, we dusted off the cobwebs with a morning hike; scaling the heights of a nearby mountain was a shared adventure we’ll never forget.
Though I wouldn’t normally call myself a car enthusiast, the Tesla Model Y we drove for the trip completely won me over. Seamlessly integrating with Aquila, after charging the car overnight via the Powerwall system, our 300-mile drive back to London required just a brief 20-minute top-up. The journey was not only efficient but also remarkably smooth and enjoyable, redefining what a long road trip can feel like.
