Travel: The best hotel rooms with a view

Nothing beats a great hotel.  But perfect interiors and wonderful service can only go so far. The real key is a wonderful view, a room with a view. Here, we list some of C&TH’s favourite hotel rooms with a view, with some recommendations from the likes of Wendy Rowe and Fiona Duncan.  

Europe

Wengernalp Hotel – Wengen

Bill Granger heads to this traditional but marvellous hotel every half term for a ski holiday with his family. It’s secluded, private and beautiful with a view of the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. This is also my top choice, as the view really is spectacular. 3823 Wengernalp, Switzerland

Hotel du Cap Eden Roc – Cap d’Antibes

One of the most famous vistas in the world makes for a pretty pleasing view from any hotel room. Hotel du Cap Eden Roc has views of the Cap d’Antibes coast in the South of France. Boulevard JF Kennedy, BP 29 – 06601

La Colombe d’Or – Saint Paul de Vence

In 1920 local farmer Paul Roux opened a café-bar in the tiny village of Saint Paul with three bedrooms above. During WWII painters and writers sought refuge on the Riviera (including the likes of Matisse, Picasso and Braque); some of the artists paid for their stay at the hotel in artworks which started quite the impressive collection. Hotel Ranga – Iceland

Our Luxury Sales Director, Maya,  loves the Hotel Ranga. ‘It is situated in the countryside of south Iceland. Set back from the main road the hotel sits on a plain alongside the Eystri Rangá, famous for its salmon fishing, and looks out onto a panorama of Mount Hekla and distant glaciers – it really does make you feel isolated in the best possible way. The Berkeley – Knightsbridge

Coombeshead Farm – Cornwall

Our food editor, Anastasia, loves the view from Coombeshead Farm. Set in 66 acres of meadows and woodlands, Tom Adams and April Bloomfield’s private guesthouse is the perfect country escape in the heart of Cornwall. The food’s pretty outrageous too. Coombeshead Farm, Lewannick, Cornwall, PL15 7QQ

Ballynahinch – Ireland

Chewton Glen – Hampshire

This Great British & Irish Hotel is a favourite among the C&TH team. The treehouses are especially popular and the views over the local Hampshire countryside are peaceful and beautiful. Mandarin Oriental, New York – Colombus Circle

Explora Patagonia

Belmond Sanctuary Lodge Machu Picchu

Miami

Hill & Friends founder and creative director Emma Hill loves escaping to Miami for a holiday. The W South Beach hotel has incredible views over the famous beach. Fiona Duncan’s Choice
