JOSH WOOD CLARIDGE'S SPA

Designed by interior architect Andre Fu, the Claridge’s Spa is situated three floors down and dons a newly installed swimming pool as well as steam rooms, a sauna and seven treatments rooms across 7,000 square feet. There are resident brands – from Josh Wood and Augustinus Bader to FaceGym – as well as a roster of visiting wellness experts, including nail artist Harriet Westmoreland and acupuncturist Ross J. Barr.

On arrival at Claridge’s, guests cross the iconic monochrome lobby and are led to the spa. Inspired by his own visits to traditional Japanese temples and Zen gardens in Kyoto, Fu has utilised natural elements such as limestone, wood and water to instil an immediate sense of calm. To start, guests are given kimonos and a welcoming foot ceremony using scented water and enzyme-rich kojito to smooth the skin while pressure points are applied to unlock tension. Inspired by temple Koh-do ceremonies, there is also a choice of incense for maximum relaxation.

Central to the spa is the heated swimming pool, which is set against the multi-vaulted ceiling and stone columns, and cabanas are on the perimeter. In addition to private consultation spaces, the treatment rooms are oak panelled and ensuite, where each treatment is personalised to the individual, inspired by the ancient concept of omakase (‘leaving another to decide what is best’).

As for the treatment menu, expect a curated collection of face and body treatments, from healing rituals to restorative body work. Try the Bamboo & Silk Ritual (90 minutes) for a complete mind and body immersion, with a range of body and hand massage techniques featuring warmed bamboo sticks and a facial using silk thimbles. There’s also the signature Body Detox & Sculpt (75 minutes) that targets areas such as the thighs, abdomen and upper arms, using technology, massage, and cold towels to promote lymphatic drainage.

The spa will also be home to Josh Wood at Claridge’s and, as his first space in Mayfair, the celebrated British hair colour expert will bring his team of A-list stylists to the hotel. Josh said, ‘This new space is not about the usual volume in a salon, but moreover about getting every strand right. The best of the best, there’s nothing that’s too much to ask.

‘It is a really proud moment to partner with Claridge’s,’ Josh added. ‘Creativity, quality, and collaboration have always been at the centre of the Josh Wood brand. It is exciting to be able to bring international, world-class hairdressing to life at Claridge’s.’
