This London Hotel Is A Must-Visit For Churchill Fans

For history buffs and fans of Sir Winston Churchill, Hyatt Regency’s Marylebone outposting is a must-visit. And with 50 suites, it has some of the largest accommodation in the city available by the night, too. Here’s how The Churchill measures up.

Rooms & Design

Situated on London’s Portman Square, The Churchill is only a few minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, but this leafy corner of Marylebone is a quiet haven in the heart of the city. Beyond its impressive facade fronted with multiple Union Jack flags (as the former PM would surely have wanted), you’ll find an impressive sweeping lobby space and reception rooms, with the Churchill references obvious and plentiful (starting with a large bronze bust by the elevators) and extending throughout the hotel with numerous photographs and artworks paying homage to the British historical icon.

Suites At The Churchill

There are 440 rooms at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, but if space is what you seek you should check into one of 50 suites. Several balcony suites provide large wraparound city-view outdoor spaces, perfect for a (admittedly rare) sunny London lounge, while others offer views of Portman Square. Many come with generous living spaces and private kitchen, with interconnecting doors to neighbouring suites to allow for large party stays. The largest is the Churchill Residential Suite, measuring a total of 325 sqm. This signature suite offers a grand four-bedroom living space with antique features, custom furniture and original artwork by Sir Winston Churchill himself. The quiet location and enormous, comfy beds make for one of the most peaceful night’s sleep in the city.

Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill For Kids

Super child-friendly, mini guests will be treated to in-room upgrades like mini embroidered robes and slippers plus books and toys and child-friendly toiletries to enjoy during their stay. (Hopefully the sweet-smelling electric-blue bubble bath provided washes out of the linen as easily as it did my son’s hair.)

The Churchill Bar

Food & Drink

The Churchill Bar is a chic art deco space for a well-mixed drink, while The Montagu Kitchen is a stylish dining space serving up a well-rounded menu of British classics and international favourites focusing on seasonal, local ingredients. The house’s signature dessert, the tiramisu, is a must-try and a spectacle, too, being constructed table-sided before you enjoy. And if you don’t mind breakfast buffet-style (personally we can’t see why not) then this is one of the most appealing in the city.

What’s Nearby?

The shops of Oxford Street and Mayfair are on the doorstep, with Selfridges only a five-minute walk from The Churchill. Often rated London’s best park, Hyde Park is just a stone’s throw away, too, while the lively streets of Soho are within walking distance for a fun night out. (The infamous members’ club Home House is just across the street, as well, if you can find yourself an invite for a wild night out.)

If you’ve been drawn to the hotel by your love of history, The Churchill War Rooms will be high on your agenda, and the British Museum and the Wallace Collection aren’t too far away, either.

Did Churchill Ever Visit?

In short, no. Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill doesn’t have any connection at all to the hotel or the building, beyond its name and top-to-toe theme. But from the welcome chocolate cigars to the themed crockery, he’s present throughout every room in the building, and would presumably get a kick out of visiting if he was around today.
