Coming-of-age series My Life With The Walter Boys is topping Netflix’s most-watched charts – but there’s one character we’re most intrigued by. Forget Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) who moves to Colorado after the tragic deaths of her parents and sister; forget Cole Walter (Noah LaLonde), Jackie’s dashing newly adopted brother, and rebellious love interest; and forget Alex Walter (Ashby Gentry), another of Jackie’s brothers-turned-love interest, with more of a bookish personality. No, we’re most interested in the gorgeous farmhouse they – and the many members of the Walter family – pile inside. But is the Walter ranch real? Yes – but it’s not where you might think.

What Is My Life With The Walter Boys About?

Based on Ali Novak’s Wattpad story of the same name (yes, you read that right), My Life With The Walter Boys is a coming of age story with 15-year-old Jackie Howard at the centre. A highflying Manhattanite with her heart set on Princeton University, Jackie’s life is derailed when her parents and sister tragically die in a car accident. With only a bachelor uncle left, Jackie is sent to Colorado to live with her guardian – her mother’s best friend, vet Dr. Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty) – and her family: her husband George (Marc Blucas) and nine rowdy children (six sons, one daughter, and two cousins, with another son grown up and living with his fiancée out of the house).

While settling into her new and chaotic countryside home – having grown up in the city – Jackie is determined to keep her focus on Princeton, while grieving the loss of her family and life as she knew it. Meanwhile, a new distraction enters the fray: Jackie’s feelings towards two very different Walter boys. Alex Walter is reliable, bookish and sweet, while his older brother Cole is mysterious and troubled. Better still, they’ve historically fought over a girl they both had romantic interest in. (Let’s forget, for the sake of the show, that they’re supposed to be brother figures to Jackie rather than romantic interests…). So what will Jackie do? How can she avoid becoming another girl in a Walter love triangle? And does she even want to avoid it?

All this drama is set under one sturdy roof: The Walter House (or the Walter Ranch, depending on how you look at it). It’s a sprawling space with a main house, plus out houses and horse stables. But there’s one question on our lips…

Is The Walter House Real?

Yes, the Walter house is a real ranch: CL Ranch, located off Jumping Pound Road, just west of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Though it is technically real, it is more of a purpose-built film set than a functioning house. Here in Alberta’s Foothills, vast and sparse wilderness is the norm, as is horse riding (which we see plenty of in the series). The existing ranch was kept the same for filming other than a fresh lick of yellow paint. Here it is before that paint job:

My Life With The Walter Boys is set in the fictional town of Silver Falls, Colorado.

Where Was It Filmed?

My Life With The Walter Boys may be set in Colorado, but it was filmed in southern Alberta, Canada. Specifically: Airdrie, Bragg Creek, Cochrane, Crossfield and Kananaskis Country.
