NYX Hotel London Holborn Review
STAY
If bold, bright designs, neon wall art and lots of colour are your bag, there’s plenty to look at in the NYX Hotel. But for me, the real appeal is found in the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows, flooding the hotel’s rooms and suites with natural light and offering views out across the city. Having said that, the quirky art and playful design is the perfect modern antidote to some of the city’s more traditionally designed hotels, so if you’re tired of priceless chandeliers and frescoed ceilings, immerse yourself in the NYX’s dark and moody hallways and take a seat on the spray-painted King Charles throne (set up with an instant camera for a printed snap…that you can photograph for your stories) in the lobby. In the rooms, bathrooms are a little on the small side, but space has been saved for enormous comfy beds, and the rooms are blissfully quiet (a rarity for such a central spot). The fun and design pizazz continues on the rooftop bar, Glasshouse On The Roof At NYX, offering stunning panoramic views of central London and creative cocktails.
EAT
Choose from the Glasshouse On The Roof At NYX or the hotel’s main restaurant, Midtown for comfort food and drinks in a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere (amongst Seletti scatter cushions, more perfect Instagram fodder). Midtown’s burgers are superlative, the truffle fries divine, alas, the puddings underwhelming. Instead, opt for an after-dinner visit to the retro games station in the lobby or after-dinner drinks on the rooftop.
DO
Unwind in the Rena Spa, where you’ll find a dark and moody atmospheric pool with a sauna and steam room, plus a gym and treatment rooms for Isgha specialist treatments. Of course, if the buzzy design has you in the mood for more winding, rather than unwinding, the hotel is on the doorstep of Oxford Street and Covent Garden, where you can immerse yourself in the hustle of the city within minutes.
THE FINAL WORD
A thoughtful and memorable design delight with heart. This modern central hotspot has the capacity to be too cool for school, but is saved from being a one hit wonder thanks to the warmth of its brilliant staff and welcoming atmosphere.
