Beautiful British & Irish Hotels With Black Friday Deals

The jet-setter's alternative to holiday sales
Black Friday spells bad news: last year’s sales produced 429,000 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from product deliveries in the UK, with shoppers spending around £3 billion in Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales (a drop from £4.8 billion in 2021, at least). On average, around 80 percent of products bought during this period end up in landfill shortly after – so we observe Green Friday instead. That said, another seasonal deal from across the Atlantic has caught our eye: Travel Tuesday. Here’s what it is – plus some deals to make the most of.
What Is Travel Tuesday?
Travel Tuesday is a new addition to the sales shoppers enjoy in the run up to Christmas: Black Friday (the final Friday of November, this year 29 November) and Cyber Monday (the Monday after Black Friday when sales continue online, this year 2 December). On Travel Tuesday, the sales transfer to the travel world, with lucrative deals available on flights, hotel stays, car hire and more across the travel sphere.
When Is It?
This year, Travel Tuesday will fall on Tuesday 3 December.
Is Travel Tuesday Worth Waiting For?
We all know Black Friday has seeped out of the boundaries of Friday, but it has also escaped the retail bubble: prices are slashed across a broad spectrum of industries, from travel agents to shoe shops, even to opticians and dentists. Great deals on travel certainly pop-up in line with Travel Tuesday – but most usually commence before Tuesday, and some even end before Travel Tuesday since it’s still quite an unknown event here in the UK.
Last year, big travel brands like Ryanair, Virgin Holidays, Booking.com and Singapore Airlines all launched deals in line with Travel Tuesday – but many were also available beyond Tuesday. This year, Hard Rock Hotels and Hilton have both confirmed they will be taking part, as has Heidi Ski Holidays. Luxury lovers should keep an eye on Mr & Mrs Smith, which offered up to 60 percent off boutique hotel stays during Black Friday last year.
If you’d like to get ahead of the deals, here are some tips:
- Make a list of destinations and hotels you actually want to visit so you don’t book anything on a whim
- Use Travel Tuesday as an opportunity to get a good price on flights you were already planning on booking
- Browse before Travel Tuesday so you know what prices are like before the sale
- Set a budget and try your best to stick to it
- Check the websites of hotels and airlines you are interested in ahead of time – they may have a newsletter you can sign up to for alerts on sales
- Being flexible with dates and destinations will help you access the best savings
- Package holidays typically have the best savings on Travel Tuesday – so have a think about where, when and if that’s something you want to do
- Take a look at deals closer to home; there may be a staycation on the horizon…
