A glitzy, fun hotel in the heart of the West End
With over 70 hotels across the world, the W Hotels group is no stranger to luxury hospitality. So, what makes its London location worth a visit? Occupying a prime spot on Soho’s Wardour Street, the five-star destination is just steps away from the lively streets of Chinatown, the opulence of Mayfair, and the charm of Covent Garden. But despite its dynamic surroundings, the award-winning hotel offers an unexpected retreat, where guests can unwind in style. Whether indulging in the spa or working out in the state-of-the-art gym, this chic hotel is the ultimate urban sanctuary, says Daniella Laxton.

Review: W London
STAY
Marrying luxury with eccentricity, the W Hotel London immediately sets itself apart from London’s other, more traditional, five-star establishments. From glitzy disco balls to bright neon signs (one reads ‘normal gets you nowhere’), avant-garde artworks, plus a multitude of union jacks, the hotel’s decor is an ode to London’s wild side.
Rooms are a haven of comfort and style with a sophisticated colour palette dominated by sleek greys, but accented with pops of red that add a signature playful touch. Accommodation varies depending on preference (and budget); for example, if you’re a film fanatic, there’s a Screening Suite which has its very own large projector screen. For wow-factor, the Extreme Wow Suite occupies the penthouse and features its own separate dining room, living room and whirlpool.
A standout feature included in every room, however, is the indulgent rainforest shower, which transforms your daily routine into a spa-like experience – not to mention plush bathrobes and an array of luxury wash amenities. Equally as impressive, the room is equipped with a cutting-edge digivalet system, putting control at your fingertips. With this system, you can easily adjust the lighting, sound, and temperature, order room service, or even access a range of wellness options. These include meditation tutorials and workout videos, designed to help you unwind.
To top it all off, the fully stocked mini-bar offers an impressive selection that exceeds the ordinary, including thoughtful extras like face masks, eye patches – perfect for recovering after late nights – and decadent luxury chocolates.
DO
With its central London location (on a corner of Leicester Square), and within close proximity to numerous transport connections, the city is truly your oyster. It goes without saying that exploring is a must, but if you’re looking for a little R&R, W London delivers. Relish peace and quiet at the AWAY Spa; loosen up in the sauna or steam room, indulge in a rejuvenating treatment, or simply kick back and relax with a good book and a herbal tea. And if you’re looking to work out, the hotel boasts an impressive gym overlooking the West End.
EAT
As with the rest of the hotel, W London’s restaurant and bar are extravagant, unconventional spaces with real buzz. Described as a place where ‘urban edge meets London glamour’, the Perception bar is a lively spot (open every day until late) with an exciting music programme and quirky cocktail list inspired by the elements.
An ode to neighbouring Chinatown, the W Lounge primarily features Asian cuisine, though it also offers a selection of Western dishes. Think salt and pepper squid, moreish edamame with soy honey dip, pillowy bao buns, and a deliciously hearty coconut prawn curry. However, if you’d rather relax in the comfort of your own room, the extensive room-service menu has plenty of options to keep you satisfied.
THE FINAL WORD
This vibrant hotel perfectly balances the excitement of the city with an inviting atmosphere for relaxation. It’s a hotspot for those looking to experience the best of London’s nightlife. Yet, beyond the bustling bars and lounges, the hotel also offers serene spaces designed for unwinding.
