Is TikTok’s Latest Decor Trend A Step Too Far?

Your fridge is about to get a serious makeover

Ever thought about decorating the inside of your fridge? Maybe with some trinkets, flowers and even a string of lights? No? We’ll forgive you for thinking it sounds absurd – but it really is a thing, at least according to TikTok. Here’s the rundown on fridgescaping.

A Guide To Fridgescaping, TikTok’s Wackiest Trend Yet

From coffee table styling to bathscaping, you can always find a way to spruce up your home if you look hard enough. The very last place you’d likely think of, however, is the inside of your fridge. And yet that’s exactly what the good people of TikTok have turned to.

The fridgescaping trend takes the tenets of tablescaping to new (chilly) frontiers. Forget adorning your dining table, mantle piece or bookshelves with charming decor; boundless possibilities will present themselves as soon as you open your fridge.

Take all the usual suspects – framed pictures, ceramic dishes, vases of flowers, even miniature sculptures and figurines – and introduce them to the inside of your fridge. That’s really all there is to it, apparently; if you believe that it belongs in the fridge, who’s to say it doesn’t?

Indeed, once you’ve committed to the art of fridgescaping, there’s really nothing you can’t do. Browse TikTok for inspiration and you’ll be subjected to Halloween fridgescapes (tiny skulls and spooky lights) alongside fridgescapes of a distinctly cottagecore variety (rosebuds in dainty vases, tiny ceramic animals, and fake grass artfully draped over cartons of eggs). A real deep dive will even unveil ‘Fridgerton’, a regencycore fantasy that showcases a fridge adorned with fresh flowers plucked by a lace-gloved hand.

Other highlights? Strings of fairy lights, garlands of fluorescent butterflies, and ribbons tied around jug handles. Fridgescaping fanatics have even taken to wallpapering the back panels of their fridges in a particularly impressive DIY twist on the trend.

You could argue, of course, that the very basic concept of a fridgescape is good old fashioned organisation: think stacked tupperware, handy shelf dividers, clear storage boxes and trays of condiments. Take it one step further with a few whimsical dishes or pretty jugs and it all begins to look neat enough – the jury is still out on whether picture frames and fairy lights really do complete the scene.

Feeling inspired (if not slightly baffled)? Read on for some fridge organisation essentials (and some not-so-essential fridgescaping finds).
