Connecticut cottagecore is the next big thing
When the leaves change, it’s time to curl up with a good book or a comforting TV show. While September heralds the return of Bake Off, many view Gilmore Girls as the quintessentially autumnal show – and it’s the perfect source of cosy interiors inspiration. Here’s our guide to autumn decor, Gilmore Girls-style.
Gilmore Girls Interiors: How To Nail Autumn Decor
Nothing says autumn like small town scenes, noughties nostalgia and copious amounts of coffee – or so says the internet. Gilmore Girls has long been hailed as one of the cosiest, most autumnal shows around, and it’s certainly a great place to start if you’re looking for interiors inspiration.
So, how exactly do you channel the Gilmore Girls look? Think cottagecore, New England style: Lorelai’s beloved home is bursting with knick knacks and mismatched vintage furniture, all set against a warm yellow colour palette with accents of cream and red.
Here’s how to make the perfect autumn wreath at home.
When creating your own cosy space, Eric Bramlett, owner of Bramlett Real Estate, suggests starting with ‘warm, earth-toned colours’ like these. ‘Whether you paint a feature wall, add some throw pillows, or bring in a bold area rug, you’ll feel that cosy effect right away,’ he explains. Then, ‘look for furniture with character: a distressed wooden coffee table or a comfy, overstuffed armchair in a floral or plaid fabric.’
Of course, the home of Rory Gilmore wouldn’t be complete without books – and plenty of them. ‘A well-stocked bookshelf, with its rustic, wooden charm, can become a real focal point,’ says Eric. ‘And it’s not just about the books; add personal touches like knick-knacks, family photos, or even small plants to make it feel like an extension of you.’
The finishing touch when it comes to autumn decor? Candles and cosy blankets, of course. Etsy’s Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, advises tying things together using ‘scented candles and cappuccino-toned cushions’ (a nod to the famous Luke’s Diner, naturally).
‘Cosy throws and pillows, especially in knitted or woven textures, can take a space from cold to comfortable in an instant,’ adds Eric. ‘Plaid textiles are another easy win; whether it’s through curtains, table runners, or upholstery, plaid has that timeless feel that fits the autumn and Gilmore Girls aesthetic perfectly.’
