Get the GBBO look
It’s a truth (almost) universally acknowledged that autumn hasn’t officially arrived until Great British Bake Off begins – and the 15th edition of the show will kick off on 28 September. Whether you’re getting ready to try out all of the new GBBO recipes or you just want to get in the spirit of the show, there’s no better time to give your kitchen a bit of a transformation. Here’s our guide to Bake Off-inspired interiors.
How To Get Your Kitchen Bake Off Ready
Picture the famed Bake Off tent and you’re sure to imagine one thing: a charming, pale blue kitchen. Pastel shades are key to creating a quintessentially English, cottagecore feel – but if you don’t quite feel like repainting your cabinets, you can add pops of colour with crockery, kitchen appliances and decor pieces.
‘Nothing says Great British Bake Off more than pastel shaker cabinets and wooden chairs in soft pink, duck egg blue or a pale minty turquoise – colours that wouldn’t look out of place on fondant icing,’ emphasises Zoe Hewett, founder of Stylemongers of Bristol. ‘It’s a cross between country kitchen style and village fête chic, so tablecloths, bunting and vintage china is the easiest way to achieve that look without doing a full redesign.’
Corey Powell, co-Director of DBS Bathrooms, agrees that colour is key. ‘Soft tones and pastel shades like baby blue create a cheerful and soothing atmosphere,’ he explains. ‘Pairing these tones with textured wooden wall panels and vintage crockery adds an authentic, nostalgic touch.’
Of course, each Bake Off station doesn’t just look the part – it’s all about functionality, too. Gareth Davies, Design Director at Classic Interiors, notes that ‘creating a kitchen inspired by Bake Off requires a balance of charm and practicality. Imagine spacious work surfaces, such as a sturdy oak butcher’s block, which not only nods to traditional British kitchens but also stands the test of time for your baking projects.’
When it comes to storage, meanwhile, ‘open shelving can showcase your baking tools, whether they be vintage ceramic bowls, vibrant stand mixers, or neatly arranged jars of baking delights,’ Gareth continues. ‘A hint of whimsy might come through floral or gingham textiles in your windows.’
