There's no need for those UV rays with this trend

Craving some summer sun? While the weather might be bleak on this side of the globe, you don’t have to fade into the grey landscape of London. Cue, sun blushing – the flowing makeup trend taking over TikTok and high fashion runways.

What Is Sun Blushing?

You know that golden, pink-tinged hue your skin gets after a day on the beach? That’s the look sun blushing tries to emulate; a dewy, sun-kissed appearance built up with various blushers. ‘Sun blushing is a technique that gives the skin that “just in the sun” appearance,’ confirms Ryane Michaels, Director of Brand Education at Morphe. ‘It differs from other blush trends in its placement and colour choice, and overall gives the impression that you’ve just been on holiday.’

Where To Apply It

As Ryane mentioned, sun blushing differs in its placement from other blush techniques. ‘Think of how the sun would hit the high points of your face,’ they recommend. ‘Your application is going to be applied to the hairline, the high points of the forehead, across the apples of the cheeks and over the bridge of the nose.’

How To Do Sun Blushing At Home

Thankfully, sun blushing is a pretty beginner friendly makeup trend. ‘This technique is user friendly and can support all makeup skill levels,’ says Ryane, who shares her tips for recreating the look. ‘You’ll want to choose a brush that is going to give you the most control over your formula. For powder formulas, use a medium powder brush with very little density, to sweep your product across the face. For creams, use a brush that is domed shape with medium density, to pat the product in. You are going to work horizontally across the face and your brush stroke should be in a downward motion.’

As for applying the product, Ryane instructs you, ‘Start by applying your blush shade across the top of your forehead hairline. Next, place your blush where your cheekbone and hairline meet, and carry your blush down to the apples of your cheek. Then apply up towards the bridge of the nose. This should look like a wide “U”.

‘Apply your blush to upper bridge of your nose, leaving the tip of your nose free of colour. Continue the wide “U” on the other cheek until you hit your opposite hairline.’

Can It Be Adapted For Different Skin Tones?

Ryane assures us that sun blushing is easily adaptable for multiple skin tones. ‘All you need to do is choose blush colours like warm pinks, peaches, reds and even warmer bronzers – and then find from that selection what best suits your skin tone.’

And Skin Types?

Similarly, the ability to work between powder and liquid products means that sun blushing can also work various skin types. ‘All skin types can pull off this gorgeous look,’ confirms Ryane. ‘The key is to pair your blush with products that are going to maintain your desired effect.’
