Island Interiors: How To Channel The Tropical Trend In Your Home

Summer might feel rather precarious in the UK, but there’s no need to fret about grey skies; you can simply brighten up your home with some rather fabulous tropical decor, which just so happens to be trending

Dubbed ‘island interiors’, this beachy look is a new counterpart to last year’s tropical modernism trend, emphasising sun-kissed tones, coastal accessories and chic fish motifs.

Jamie and Lou Graham, owners of homeware brand Graham and Green, explain that island interiors conjure ‘treasured memories and bygone travels,’ helping to bring the ‘warmth and colour of tropical adventures into your home.’

So how do you get the look? According to Jamie and Lou, ‘a few thoughtful additions to your home can help you capture the essence of exotic charm; think vibrant palm tree wall art and statement, sun-kissed table lamps. These home accessories not only brighten your space but also evoke the joy of coastal summers.’

When it comes to colours, meanwhile, Romanos Brihi, partner at design firm Studio Vero, suggests inky tones, earthy ceramics and colourful accessories – all of which work particularly well in a kitchen or bar area.

Tropical tablescaping is also a good way to channel the island theme; Jamie and Lou suggest palm tree-patterned placemats layered with napkins made of natural fabrics like linen and cotton. Floral tablecloths and napkin rings add a touch of artisanal charm, while rustic serving bowls provide the finishing touch, creating a tablescape that effortlessly captures the sun-drenched spirit of a tropical island.
