How To Wear Butter Yellow, The Hue Of The Season
By
There's no room for neutrals this spring – and the rise of butter yellow fashion proves it
Pantone might have named ‘mocha mousse‘ as 2025’s colour of the year, but another hue is quickly closing in on the title. We’re of course talking about butter yellow, the sunny shade having a major moment in interior design, beauty and fashion. And with spring just around the corner, now’s the time to tap into the trend. Here’s how.
The Rise Of Butter Yellow Fashion
While we often see a resurgence in sugary pastels come spring, nothing could have prepared us for the butter yellow boom. Bathing the SS25 runway in warmth, it was forecasted as one of the standout hues of the season – with the likes of Toteme, Chanel and Chloé all leaning into the colourway.
But where did the sudden popularity come from? Maybe it was last year’s Andie Anderson revival, Sabrina Carpenter’s string of buttery yellow concert outfits or just a pinch of seasonal luck. Either way, butter yellow fashion is here to stay.

How To Wear The Trend
Experimenting with colour is key to nailing the trend. Be playful with colour and opt for hero pieces that really spotlight the buttery hue (and that you can use as a focal point to build your outfit around). ‘Butter yellow is such a fun trend – it’s cheerful and surprisingly easy to wear,’ says Eshita Kabra-Davies, founder of By Rotation. ‘I always say you don’t have to go all in; you can opt for a pretty spring dress, a silky scarf that you can either wear as a top or tie onto your bag, or even a shirt to brighten up your tailoring.’
If you find yourself overwhelmed by the vibrant colour, however, you can get involved in more minimal smaller ways. ‘If you’re not ready to dive in head-first, jewellery is a lovely way to introduce it subtly,’ recommends Rachel Jackson, founder of Rachel Jackson Jewellery. ‘Yellow is such a happy, mood-boosting colour – and those lucky enough to have a November birthday can wear citrine, a beautiful golden stone that’s all about positivity and energy. It’s such an easy way to nod to the trend while keeping your look personal and meaningful.’
