Heels and boots and flats, oh my

Party season is finally upon us – and what better way to celebrate than with a pair of statement shoes? We’ve rounded up some of our favourites for winter 2024 down below (plus the trends to try out, according to industry experts).

The Country & Town House Responsible Buyers’ Guide

What Are The Top Shoe Trends For Party Season?

Dressy Flats

While heels are a staple for party season, there’s been a huge resurgence in ballet flats this year. And, being a footwear option that can be dressed up or down, we can see flats being a go-to option for every occasion this winter. ‘For Christmas, New Year’s Eve and every party in between, I love to wear a pair of eye-catching flats,’ says designer Camilla Elphick. ‘Generally, the festivities take place at our friends and family’s homes so a pair of flats is a chic option, where a heel might feel TOO much and a boot could look casual and outdoorsy.’

Slick Slingbacks

But when the occasion does call for a pair of heels, make sure they’re slingbacks. Following in the footsteps of 2023’s kitten heels obsession, the humble slingback is a strappier, sleeker take on the short heel trend. (Although don’t let that stop you from stepping into a slingback with a bigger heel.)

Sparkles & Metallics

As for the details – party season does call for glitter, doesn’t it? The trend that comes back around every year, expect partiers to step into shades of gold and silver, liquid-hued reds and lots (and we mean lots) of sparkle.

Tights Team Up

While not technically a footwear trend, we’re thinking of the bigger picture here. Tights have emerged as one of the biggest accessories of AW24, worn with everything from flats and heels to trainers and sandals. And the bolder the hosier, the better. ‘I like to pair my flats with party tights or socks,’ adds Camilla. ‘I’ve noticed this is a big trend this season and Swedish Stockings have some great designs.’
