What Are Cherry Red Nails?
Think of dark, ripe cherries, and you should have the specific shade of red on everyone’s lips (and nails). ‘Red is always a staple for the cooler months, but this season, cherry red is the star,’ Angie Campbell, Lead Nail Tech at Paint Nails London, told us in our AW24 trend report. ‘It’s a sophisticated yet vibrant shade that transitions seamlessly from day to night.’
Coming in hot alongside maroon and burgundy, this is a trend that has all the fire power of a red mani – but with an emphasis on autumnal hues. And, while all-over colour is a classic, it can be worn in a variety of ways. ‘Whether worn as a full mani or as cherry red French tips, this colour is bold yet refined,’ notes Angie. What Is The Red Nail Theory?
The trend also ties in with TikTok’s red nail theory, a topic which has been hotly debated on the platform. ‘Red nail theory suggests that red nails signal confidence, power, and a bit of allure, almost like wearing red lipstick,’ explains Sami Pelling, a nail expert at the Nail Mafia, in a conversation with Fresha. ‘It’s based on the idea that red catches people’s attention and can be seen as a symbol of boldness and even romance.
‘From crimson to burgundy, red nails add a pop of vibrancy – and let’s be honest, they make you feel unstoppable,’ she continues. ‘Red nails are timeless, but we see a spike in popularity during autumn into winter because red tones complement the warm, rich colours we naturally start to wear in our outfits.’
